Byton is a Chinese electric car brand that was founded in 2017 by former BMW and Nissan executives. Byton name stands for “Byte on Wheels”, which reflects its vision of creating innovative and connected electric vehicles. Byton has a global presence, with offices and facilities in China, the United States, and Germany. Byton electric cars are designed to offer a premium and innovative driving experience with a focus on technology, performance, and sustainability.
Byton currently has two electric car models: the M-Byte and the K-Byte. The M-Byte is a mid-size SUV that was launched in 2019 and has sold over 100,000 units as of June 2021. The M-Byte features a 48-inch curved display on the dashboard, a touchpad on the steering wheel, and a facial recognition system. The M-Byte has a range of up to 500 km and a starting price of $45,000 before subsidies. The K-Byte is a concept sedan that was revealed in 2018 and is expected to be launched in 2022. The K-Byte features a sleek design, a retractable lidar system, and a self-driving mode. The K-Byte has a range of up to 400 km and a projected price of $46,200 before subsidies.
Byton also has a strategic partnership with Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturer that produces iPhones and other electronic devices. Foxconn plans to invest US$200 million in BYTON and help it with manufacturing and supply chain management. BYTON also has a collaboration with Tencent, a Chinese tech giant that provides cloud services and software solutions for BYTON electric cars.
