The 2023 R1S SUV, the second design from startup Rivian, features three rows of seating, a luxurious interior, and an all-electric drivetrain. The R1S is very quick, hitting 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, the same as other EVs and its sibling, the R1T pickup truck. While the R1S handles well for an SUV on the road, we wish it drove more like the R1T pickup with which it shares its mechanicals. The R1S offers true off-road capability that, unlike other EVs, is on par with many gasoline-powered rivals, including the Land Rover Discovery. It has a space for seven passengers, excellent all-around performance, electric efficiency, and Billy Goat off-road capability. The four-motor powertrain employs two motors on each axle to provide all-wheel drive and torque vectoring. It produces a total of 908 lb-ft of torque and 835 horsepower. With a 135-watt battery pack, the R1S has a 316-mile electric driving range, a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds, and a 7,700 lb towing capacity. Big and small batteries and a two-motor powertrain with around 600 hp will be available in the upcoming variants. Nine driving modes are available for the R1S, four of which serve as off-road mode subsets and five regular modes. The latter group consists of drift, rally, soft sand, all-terrain, and rock curling. Adventure is the only variant available. 200.8 inches in length, 77.3 inches in height, 81.8 inches in width, 121.1 inches in wheelbase, and 8.7 inches in ground clearance make up the specifications of this SUV. Glacier White, LA Silver, Compass Yellow, El Cap Granite, Forest Green, Limestone, Midnight, Red Canyon, and Raven Blue are among the colors offered.

The Driver+ assistance package includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and LED headlights with the auto high beam are fully equipped on the Adventure grade. Luxury amenities include wagon leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, woodgrain trims, and a 20-speaker Raven Elevation audio system. The Adventure Package has seven seats and 21-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment.
