French manufacturer Citroen has taken the city car to a different level by introducing the new AMI electric vehicle. The new pocket car is even smaller than the first Smart Fortwo. The Citroen Ami is designated as a quadricycle, neatly clearing all the regulations required to be classified as a mass vehicle. So you get a tiny 485kg (including the battery pack). Power comes from an electric motor mated to a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery mounted under the floor. It can be fully charged in 3 hours from a regular 220v socket. It is envisioned as an urban mobility solution, better than an electric scooter or bicycle. It has a range of 70 km (43.5 miles). The length of the car is 94.9 in (2410 mm), the width is 54.7 in (1389 mm), and 1519 mm in height. The turning circle is 23.6 ft. The top speed is 28 mph (45 km/h). The body is made of unpainted/impregnated Blue Ami plastic draped over a rudimentary box-section chassis. The front and rear panels are the same, and the side glass, doors, etc., are all swappable from side to side, cutting production costs and making it cheap. Everybody loves it, and it generates a feel-good that is impossible even in a supercar. It is effortless to drive around a crowded city.
